Friends of Scarborough Art Gallery

The Friends of Scarborough Art Gallery are lively and enthusiastic people who care about art galleries and museums and the contribution which they make to our cultural life and heritage. The principal purpose of this thriving and successful group is to support and promote Scarborough Art Gallery and its collections of oil paintings, watercolours, prints and drawings which include notable examples depicting Scarborough and the surrounding area.

The Gallery also houses a significant collection of railway and council posters showing the beauties of Scarborough. Other aims are to raise the profile of the Arts and Culture throughout Scarborough and to provide opportunities to expand the knowledge and enjoyment of Art.andrew and paul sit by northbay

Meetings

The Friends usually have monthly afternoon meetings at Scarborough Art Gallery throughout the winter months. Meetings feature illustrated lectures, given by experts, on a wide variety of topics. They provide an opportunity to talk to the speaker and to socialise with members over refreshments.

Membership

Membership of the Friends entitles you to free entry to the Art Gallery and invitations to private view evenings. A regular newsletter is distributed which highlights events and activities which often include trips to regional art galleries, museums and historic buildings - even the occasional trip abroad!

The work carried out by the Friends is invaluable to the Art Gallery and includes commissioning works of art for the collections, conservation and sponsorship of exhibitions.
